If you're carrying the emotional weight of a past abortion experience, you're not alone. Whatever you're feeling—grief, guilt, sadness, confusion, or simply questions you haven't been able to answer—healing is possible, and compassionate support is available. Julie's story is a reminder that no matter how much time has passed, hope can begin with one conversation.

Feeling Desperate, Lonely, and Confused

Julie moved to New York City to pursue a career in modeling. On the outside, her life seemed exciting, fun, and dynamic. On the inside, however, she was hurting. She felt desperate, lonely, and confused.

“I was trying to understand why I was so hollow,” she says.

Fifteen years earlier, Julie had an abortion. Although the experience was years behind her, the emotions remained. Julie remembers carrying guilt and shame but not having anyone she felt safe enough to talk to. For others, like Arianna, finding a safe place to speak openly became an important part of the healing process. As she searched for healing and peace, she found Avail.

Finding Resilience Through Support

“I walked into Avail broken, the weight of the world just plummeting on my shoulders,” she says. “I fell to the ground in a heap of tears.”

For the first time, Julie found a space where she didn't have to carry everything on her own. Through conversations with a Care Expert, she began to recognize that healing was possible. She chose to join a nine-week after-abortion support group, where she remembers feeling, “accepted, heard, and understood.”

Sometimes healing begins simply by being seen, listened to, and reminded that you don't have to walk through your story alone.

A New Chapter of Purpose

As Julie continued her healing journey, she discovered a renewed sense of purpose. She eventually became a Care Expert at Avail and an after-abortion support group leader, walking alongside others who were searching for the same hope she had found.

“Now I help the very woman I once was,” she says.

You Can Find Resilience

Every healing journey is different, and there is no set timeline. Whether your experience was recent or many years ago, you deserve a safe place to be honest about your story without fear of judgment.

At Avail, our compassionate Care Experts are here to listen to your story, your feelings, and your fears with empathy and respect. Support is available remotely, so you can connect from the safety and privacy of your own home. You can explore Avail’s virtual support services and choose the option that feels most comfortable for you.

If connecting with others feels like the right next step, you can also join a virtual support group with people who have had similar experiences.

Support for Your Own Healing Journey

Can I find support after an abortion experience?

Yes. If you're looking for a safe, compassionate place to talk, Avail offers remote support with Care Experts and virtual after-abortion support groups designed to help you process your experience without judgment.

What if my abortion happened years ago?

Healing isn't limited by time. Whether your abortion was recent or many years ago, it's never too late to seek support. Many people begin their healing journey long after their experience, just as Julie did.

Sometimes the emotions connected to an abortion also affect a relationship. If that has been part of your experience, you may find it helpful to learn more about navigating relationship resentment after an abortion.

Will anyone judge me for my story?

No. At Avail, our Care Experts are here to listen with compassion and respect. You'll have a safe, confidential space to share your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.

If someone in your life has blamed, manipulated, or caused you to question your experience, learning to recognize blame-shifting in relationships may help you better understand what you have been carrying.
